“As a teenager, I struggled. I was acting out, getting into trouble, and failing in school. On a fluke, I was introduced to golf when I was 14 and surprisingly, the game gradually gave me hope and the tools I needed to cope. I didn’t realize it then, but golf taught me how to deal with good and bad situations and to do the best I could with them. I gradually started doing better in school and turned my life around. Now, over 40 years later, almost everything great in my life stems from being introduced to golf.” – Jon Gomez, River Ridge Golf Pro, trainer of the Navy Wounded Warriors Golf Team for the 2018 Invictus Games, and passionate volunteer helping others through golf.
Like Jon, Recovery Shot knows the character building and lifelong enrichment that golf provides, and the Youth Golf Program will give underserved children access to it. We’ll grow the program, too, to create the most impact for interested kids. Summer camps, actual course play, competition in mini tournaments and mentorship are all in the future. Who knows? Somebody’s life could be changed forever.
